End of the Road tour for the WA mic mods!

So, this quarter will be sort of a 'last call' for the popular WA tube mic mods that we have offered since the beginning of the company back in 2017. We have greatly enjoyed turning these mics into works of art meant to last a lifetime; but the time has come to focus on our main interest, which is our fully handcrafted mics and maintaining support for those and designing the next generation of products.
Initially, I planned to end the mic mod side of the business at the end of last month; but because there were many people who were still in discussion on the mods, I've decided to extend it thru Dec 31'st. After that date, they will be off the site and no longer discussed. Likewise also probably for the custom replacement WA power supplies. There just really isn't the bandwidth or real estate to do everything. I began to realize earlier this year that something would have to give, otherwise we would never make any progress on our real goals. The demands of both companies really now has reached a point where it has taken up any remaining free time.
Of course, also, there is the matter of trajectory for both companies. If anyone is following the main company (United), you will see that now (as of yesterday) we have offered at least 2 products which give customers a superior alternative to similar tube mic designs that one previously would have had to purchase either through WA or other lower cost vendors to compete in that price range. And while I cannot comment on future product development, it doesn’t take too much imagination to foresee a time in the near future where there would be a vastly superior alternative option for a ready-made microphone for most everything in the tube mic lineup that we currently offer upgrades for. The United mics don’t require any upgrades, and our focus should be on encouraging folks to buy these new mics from this new line of amazing products. While there are currently some gaps, I can imagine that these gaps will close relatively soon.
Of course, there is also value in providing a valuable service for folks who already own the WA mics and want them to simply be the best they can be. I get it, and I love doing it. In a perfect world where I could clone myself twice or have 100 hours in a day, I’d probably keep doing that too. Unfortunately, there are hard limits to the amount of time in a day…
So, we will continue to take mic mod orders thru Dec 31 and then take them off the site Jan 1. That’s a hard date, and after that, we won’t do or talk about the upgrades. I’ll be doing all the remaining mod orders personally (the Baton Rouge address) and they will be done as time permits. Due to my schedule, anyone placing a mic mod order from this day thru the next 3 months will need to be patient… If you feel that your studio is ‘completely down’ and your projects are on hold while your one WA mic is off to be worked on; then these mods are not right for you… Just need to be honest about that. I would guess it will take me well into the first quarter of 2026 to get through the final batch of mods, especially if a lot of people send them in to get in before the cutoff date.
So, thanks again to everyone who has gotten the mods. It brings me joy to know there are hundreds of mics out there with our metallic upgrade sticker, and that we were able to to bring so many of these pieces to the uncompromised, original vision for them. I’m even more excited about what the future holds!
Best,
Chad
